About the Position:This is a permanent position as a Security Guard with the Moncrief Army Health Clinic at Fort Jackson SC.

  • Investigate trespassing violations and attempted thefts of federal and personal property.
  • Discover or respond to potential criminal acts; confiscate contraband; detain perpetrators if necessary; apprehend violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turn them over to military or civilian police or other law enforcement officers.
  • Perform searches and interviews of suspects.
  • Investigate all types of patient complaints, taking required action on most matters and referring only serious complaints to the immediate supervisor or the Moncrief Army Health Clinic (MAHC) Security Manager.
  • Respond to cases of domestic violence within the hospital. Perform regular inspections of the psychiatric and infant wards. As requested, assist in emergency room, psychiatric and medical wards to control and/or restrain violent patients.
  • Furnish a variety of information to patients and the visiting public concerning location of facilities, visiting hours, etc. Provide safety escort to staff and visitors during hours of darkness to parking lots.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel 5% for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; experience with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involves: protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life, detaining individuals that violate security regulations and/or commit crimes, monitoring Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) Cameras, intrusion detection systems, motion sensors, and electronically controlled locks, and responding to suspicious activity. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
