Correct Care Solutions Assistant Director of Nursing in Columbia, South Carolina
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in directing the activities of licensed and non-licensed staff who provide nursing care and other health services to patients assigned to medical-surgical and psychiatric units at the Columbia Regional Care Center (CRCC) on a 24-hour, 7 day per week basis.
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
Minimum of two years’ experience as a Nursing Supervisor, Charge Nurse or other supervisory level position in correctional, psychiatric and/or medical surgical nursing.
Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with patients and families, to elicit cooperation and reduce apprehensions.
Must possess technical expertise sufficient to enable effective oversight of patient care.
Must be able to pass and maintain clearance for a Public Trust Position, if working with specific patients.
Must have a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of South Carolina or possess a multi-state compact license recognized by the State of South Carolina to practice professional nursing and maintain a current copy of license on file at the facility at all times.
Must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
In conjunction with the DON is responsible for planning, developing and supervising the activities of nursing personnel who provide health care and services to patients at the CRCC.
Co-plans and coordinates the development of nursing services, policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory, state and federal guidelines.
Co-manages the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights.
Shares the responsibility for selecting nursing staff, completing employee appraisals and resolving problems involving employee disciplinary action.
Leads staff communication huddles, evaluates and reviews work on each unit by random chart reviews, evaluates patterns of nursing care and facilitates change through staff education and counseling as required.
Conducts nursing rounds on all units throughout the day, including the beginning and end of shift.
Provides reports/recommendations as needed/required concerning the operations of Nursing Services.
Assists the DON in ensuring that residents are free from abuse, mistreatment and neglect.
Ensures nursing staff awareness and compliance with Federal and State regulations relative to resident rights issues.
Coordinates all required orientation training prior to independent work assignment.
Develops nursing staff schedules. Ensures adequate staff coverage for call outs and unexpected shifts in staffing requirements.
Collects data and prepares monthly reports, verbal and written, as assigned.
Conducts staff meetings ensuring distribution of pertinent information to staff.
Completes on call duty as assigned. Provides guidance and direction to nursing supervisors as needed.
Advocates facility-wide Performance Improvement (PI), Risk Management, patient safety, and infection control activities. Chairs PI teams as needed.
Serves on clinical care committee and multi-disciplinary task forces, which affect the delivery of patient care within the facility.
Practices principles of risk management, safety and infection control.
Performs other duties as assigned.
